As part of its developmental initiatives, the Gender Equity and Equal Opportunities Commission organised the first training gathering for female basketball players under the age of 18, in collaboration with the Women’s Committee of the Bahrain Basketball Association (BBA), under the umbrella of the “I’m Talented” programme, one of the Committee’s pioneering initiatives.
The event took place on Wednesday evening, 16 June, at the Zain Basketball Arena in Umm Al Hassam. It featured a group of young female athletes participating in 3×3 basketball training sessions, aimed at developing their skills and boosting female representation in sports.
The training was attended by representatives of the Equal Opportunities Committee, including Salama Mohammed Atiq and Wafa Ibrahim Al Jazzaf. From the Women’s Committee of the BBA, Nadia Haji and Fatima Qamber were present, along with BBA representatives Ahmed Alyasi and Mohammed Al Bastaki, in addition to a Serbian coach specialising in 3×3 basketball.
This event is part of a broader series of programmes the “I’m Talented” initiative is set to implement across various sports, with the aim of identifying and nurturing young talents and preparing them for competitive participation at both the national and international levels. The initiative aligns with the Committee’s vision to promote gender balance and empower Bahraini women in sport.
