Bahrain Olympic Committee Wins Best Arab Olympic Committee Award for 2024

Seef District – Bahrain Olympic Committee:

In a significant achievement that highlights the Bahrain Olympic Committee's standing on the Arab, continental, and international stages, the Committee was awarded the prestigious Best Arab Olympic Committee Award for 2024 at the “Best” Awards ceremony. The ceremony, organized by the Tatweej News website, took place in Cairo, Egypt, marking its fifth consecutive year.

The award was presented to Mr. Ahmed Mohamed Abdel Ghaffar, Executive Director of Operations at the Bahrain Olympic Committee, who accepted the honor on behalf of the Committee. The ceremony was attended by a distinguished audience, including the Minister of Youth and Sports of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, as well as several prominent officials, dignitaries, and invitees.

The Bahrain Olympic Committee earned this recognition following a voting process that acknowledged its outstanding achievements in 2024. The Committee's notable performance at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where Bahrain ranked first in the Arab world and 33rd globally out of 204 participating countries, played a key role in securing the award. Bahrain’s athletes made history by winning four medals for the first time, including two gold medals—one by runner Winifred Yafi in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase and the other by wrestler Ahmed Taj El-Din in the 97 kg weight class. Additionally, the country secured two silver medals, with runner Salwa Eid placing second in the women’s 400-meter race and weightlifter Ghor earning silver in weightlifting.

This achievement highlights Bahrain’s increasing prominence in the global sports community and the ongoing support provided by the Bahrain Olympic Committee to its athletes. The award serves as a testament to the collective efforts and dedication of Bahrain’s sports community, as well as its drive for excellence on the world stage.
