Seef District – Bahrain Olympic Committee:
In a groundbreaking step towards enhancing media skills among female athletes in the Kingdom, the first specialised sports media training workshop for female athletes was held on Saturday morning at the Hilton Garden Inn (The Avenues), under the patronage of Her Excellency Dr Shaikha Hessa bint Khalid Al Khalifa, Chairwoman of the Committee for Equal Opportunities and Gender Balance in Sports.
The workshop saw wide participation from female athletes across various individual and team sports, as well as a number of female sports photographers. The programme focused on media and visual documentation in women’s sports, in collaboration with Getty Images — one of the world’s leading media organisations, which delivered expert training content on the professional coverage and documentation of sporting events.
Speaking on the sidelines of the workshop, Dr Shaikha Hessa emphasised:
“Media representation plays a vital role in showcasing the achievements of women in sport. Our goal is to empower female athletes not only on the field, but also by equipping them with the tools to represent themselves and Bahraini sport with pride on both local and global platforms.”
The workshop included sessions on managing media identity and engaging with the press, in addition to interactive discussions between participants and a Getty Images representative, offering both practical insight and professional exposure.
At the conclusion of the event, Dr Shaikha Hessa honoured the participating athletes and photographers in recognition of their active contribution and efforts to elevate the media image of women’s sports in Bahrain. The honourees included Yasmeen Faiz, Rawan AlAli, Hajar AlKhaldi, Bayan Salman, Aya Hassan, Muneera Abdullah, and photographers Shahad Fadhel and Lulwa Fakhro.
This workshop forms part of a broader series of initiatives launched by the committee to promote gender equality and balance within the sports sector, reflecting the national commitment to empowering women and broadening their presence and impact across all fields
