Hessa bint Khalid Proud of Strong Bahraini Women’s Presence at GCC Games

The 4th GCC Games, set to be hosted by the Qatari capital Doha from 11 to 22 May, will feature a distinguished presence for Bahraini women through the participation of 51 female members within the Kingdom’s delegation, led by Head of Delegation Maryam Mardana. This reflects the Bahrain Olympic Committee’s commitment, alongside the Equal Opportunities and Gender Balance Sports Field Committee, to strengthening the presence of Bahraini women in various international sporting participations.

Bahrain will participate with seven women’s teams in shooting, 3x3 basketball, athletics, taekwondo, archery, table tennis and padel, while the official delegation also includes one media representative and three female administrators.

On this occasion, Her Excellency Shaikha Dr Hessa bint Khalid Al Khalifa, Member of the Board of Directors of the Bahrain Olympic Committee and Chairperson of the Equal Opportunities and Gender Balance Sports Field Committee, expressed her sincere thanks and appreciation to His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, Chairman of the General Sports Authority, and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, for his continued support in enhancing the role of women across all sporting fields, whether as leaders, athletes, administrators or coaches. She noted that this support has contributed to a series of achievements for Bahraini sport in general and for Bahraini women in particular.

Shaikha Dr Hessa bint Khalid Al Khalifa also praised the female personnel selected to represent Bahrain at the 4th GCC Games, expressing hope that the participation will result in positive outcomes for women’s sport as well as the Kingdom’s other national teams. She also expressed confidence in the ability of Bahrain’s women’s teams to honour the reputation of Bahraini sport, given the distinguished athletes included in the squads and their notable sporting records and achievements.

She affirmed that the Equal Opportunities Committee will continue to support and closely follow the women’s teams in Doha by providing all forms of assistance and backing to the athletes, expressing her hope that Bahrain’s participation will culminate in winning the highest possible number of medals and raising the Kingdom’s flag high.
