HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad chairs Bahrain Olympic Committee board meeting
Manama, Sep. 8 (BNA): His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of the General Sports Authority and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC), chaired the eighth meeting of the Bahrain Olympic Committee Board of Directors.
HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad emphasised the importance of all national teams, Team Bahrain, making a distinguished representation at the 20th Asian Games, to be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4, and returning with an achievement befitting the status and distinguished reputation of Bahraini sports.
His Highness was briefed on the latest preparations undertaken by the Bahrain Olympic Committee for participation in the 20th Asian Games, including the participating sports and the size of the delegation.
HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad was also briefed on preparations to participate in the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar and the 2026 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Riyadh. The meeting also reviewed the latest developments regarding Bahrain’s hosting of the Arab Games, scheduled to be held in 2027, as well as preparations and arrangements for Bahrain’s participation in the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
The meeting decided that Bahrain will host the 38th meeting of the Presidents of the National Olympic Committees of the GCC countries, as well as the 102nd Executive Office meeting.
Fares Mustafa Al Kooheji, Secretary-General of BOC, reviewed the sporting achievements during the first quarter of 2026, most notably the men’s national handball team winning the Asian Championship title, as well as the national teams’ results at the sixth Asian Beach Games in Sanya 2026 and the fourth Gulf Games in Doha 2026.
The meeting also reviewed the Committee’s achievements in 2025 and the latest developments regarding the International Aquatics Federation project and GFH Group.
It discussed the implementation of the regulations governing training and coaches in the sports sector across all sports federations. It also decided to appoint B.K.F. Al Bassam to audit the accounting records of the sports federations for 2026.
The meeting further discussed proposals submitted by the sports federations during the ordinary General Assembly meeting of the Bahrain Olympic Committee.
Under any other business, the meeting set the organisation of the fifth edition of the Bahrain Kids Olympics and the 2026 Olympic Day event for the final quarter of this year.
