Basketball Competitions Kick Off Today at the 6th School Games

The boys' team from Al-Naeem Secondary School won first place and the gold medal in the handball competition, beating Sheikh Khalifa Institute, which took second place. Ahmed Al-Omran School finished third. This was part of the 6th edition of the School Games, organised by the Bahrain Olympic Committee from September 23 to October 3.

The games feature 19 sports, including basketball, handball, beach volleyball, athletics, swimming, fencing, tennis, table tennis, karate, chess, badminton, taekwondo, judo, boxing, gymnastics, cycling, cricket, padel, and sailing.

Yesterday saw competitions and awards in several sports, including badminton, tennis, boxing, and fencing. Matches took place from morning until evening, demonstrating the efforts of the organising committees, technical staff, and referees to ensure a smooth, competitive process across the various venues.

In yesterday’s fencing competitions, the results were as follows:

  • Girls’ Epee: First place went to Maryam Al-Khan, second to Sumaiya Buhazza, third to Yaqeen Faisal, and a joint third to Aya Bouzgarou.
  • Boys’ Epee: Abdulrahman Al-Shammal secured first place, with Khalid Ahmed in second, Omar Boukhlif in third, and Issa Naim sharing third place.

For today’s fencing results in the girls’ competition:

  • Yaqeen Faisal took first place, Zainab Al-Majid second, Shahad Al-Alawi third, and Maryam Al-Khan secured a joint third place.

Today promises more excitement with the start of basketball competitions, which will run for three days and conclude on the final day, October 3. Meanwhile, athletics competitions continue, with tomorrow marking the final day for track and field events. Additionally, today will see continued matches in fencing, tennis, table tennis, and badminton.

This tournament precedes Bahrain hosting the International School Games "Bahrain 2024," the most significant event. Approximately 5,000 students from 80 countries will compete in 25 sports. The competitions will be held across several private schools, universities, and major sports stadiums and facilities.
