Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) board member and Women’s Sport Committee chairwoman Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa expressed gratitude to Energy Minister Dr Abdulhussain bin Ali Mirza for patronizing the inauguration of Bapco Women’s Basketball team premises in Awali.
Shaikh Hayat said the launching of the new premises reflects the attention of Bapco towards women’s sports and is in line with the directives of His Majesty King Hamad, HRH the Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister and HRH Princes Sabika bint Ebrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women, to empower Bahraini women and promote her role in all areas.
Shaikha Hayat also stressed on the continued support of Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Work and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman and BOC President, which played a major part in the development of Bahrain women’s sports in recent years.
She added that the allocation of Bapco Women’s Basketball team premises underlines the company’s commitment to back women’s sports in Bahrain and more specifically this team, which was founded in 2012.
The company’s strategy resulted in a number of achievements made by the team in different regional countries, including Oman and Kuwait.
Shaikha Hayat concluded her statement by thanking team leader Nadia Muradi as well as members of the team and commended their efforts in an attempt to promote women’s sports in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
