?The achievements of the Bahrain sports teams at the ongoing Fifth GCC Women’s Games, being held in Doha, was commended by high-ranking Bahraini sports officials.
Culminating 14 medals in total, including 6 gold, 6 silver and 2 bronze, Bahrain’s athletics team emerged second overall in the athletics championships behind gold medalists the UAE (7, 1, 4), while finishing ahead of third-placers Qatar (4, 10, 7) and fourth Oman (4, 4, 5).
The shooting and handball teams also had impressive run at the games, with the former capturing the bronze medal. In shooting, Bahrain took its tally to 11 medals (4, gold, 3 silver, 4 bronze) after fierce challenge from competitors from Qatar, the UAE and Oman.
Soon after their return from Doha, team members were taken to the Bahrain Olympic Committee premises in Seef, where a reception ceremony was prepared on this occasion.
The reception was attended by Supreme Council for Youth and Sports deputy general secretary and BOC general secretary Abdulrahman Askar, as well as representatives of the sports federations and other high-ranking committee officials.
In his statement after the reception, Askar said he was proud for the remarkable results achieved by both teams in this major women’s regional sporting gathering.
He commended the efforts of the technical team and the athletes of the athletics team throughout the games, and wished them progress.
