?Bahrain is all set to make its debut in the 17th Asian Games’ triathlon event, a year after the Bahrain Triathlon Association was officially founded.
In the 17th edition of the Games, scheduled to take place at Incheon, in South Korea from September 19 to October 4, two of the nation’s finest athletes will line up along with some of the continent’s best in two different competitions.
Nawaf Al Daen and Mohammed Al Qaisi, who have already taken part in several Ironman events, are due to compete in the 1.5km swim, to be followed by a 40km cycling and finally a 10km run.
Bahrain Triathlon Association vice-president Yousef Al Thawadi said both athletes are now fully prepared for the coming event, having completed a packed training programme under well-experienced triathlon coaches.
Al Thawadi noted that the main objective of this participation is to gain more experience and qualify a second batch of athletes to make the most of this event as they compete with other participants of higher levels.
He added that the association will have high hopes on both athletes in the Games, especially with the unlimited support of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, who is also a great triathlon athlete himself and is regarded as an icon for those young Bahraini athletes.
