?Bahrain’s taekwondo team have stepped up their training for the coming GCC Women’s Games, due to take place in Muscat.
The fourth edition of the Games is due to be held from March 8 to 18, with representatives from across the Arabian Gulf vying for top honors.
Bahrain hopes to improve on their achievement in the previous edition of the games organized on home soil in 2013, when they host nation took five gold medals in different weight category contests.
Seven martial arts members will be spearheading Bahrain in this 11-day event and will be competing in seven different weight categories.
They are Deena Mahboob, Kaltham Johar, Fajer Al Binali, Juana Mohammed, Ola Al Dossary, Bashayer Al Naqeeb and Jumana Mohammed.
Bahrain Martial Arts Association technical manager Tawfeeq Nuwaiser said the team have been recently training on daily basis in preparation for the upcoming challenge.
Nuwaiser noted that the association, headed by Ahmed Al Khayyat, has set up a complete training programme for the team, which includes a domestic five-day camp with two of the Jordanian national team best taekwondo members – Shaden Thweib and Rawan Al Jabery.
Bahrain’s training camp, which gets underway on March 2, was arranged in coordination with Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
“Bahrain has dominated all GCC taekwondo competitions, they have been regional champions for seven years and the players have now obtained good experience and high skills,” said Nuwaiser.
