?The Organising Committee of the 2017 Bahrain Sport Day is holding a press conference today (Thursday) to reveal further details on the upcoming event, scheduled for February 7.
Today’s media gathering, which tips off at 11am, will be at the Bahrain Olympic Committee premises in Seef, where Southern Governor Shaikh Abdulla bin Rashid Al Khalifa will announce the programme, objectives, logo and mascot of the Bahrain Sport Day.
On his part, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports deputy general secretary and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) general secretary Abdulrahman Askar will declare the official sponsors as well as the supporters of the activities.
Also speaking at the conference is Shaikh Saqer bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Assistant Undersecretary for Youth Authorities and Centres, who will talk about the programmes organized by the clubs and youth centres.
The organizing committee includes BOC representatives Abduljalil Asad, Fajer Jassim, and Yaqoub Abdulmohsin, in addition to Bahrain’s four governorates – Zuhair Al Absi (Muharraq Governorate), Hasan Al Madani (Capital Governorate), Mohammed Darwish (Northern Governorate) and Salah Shehab (Southern Governorate).
Other members are Dr Waleed Al Manea (Health Ministry), Dr Shaikh Saqer bin Salman Al Khalifa (Youth and Sports Affairs Ministry), Khalid Al Kooheji (Labor and Social Development Ministry), Abdulla Al Blooshi (Information Affairs Ministry), Dr Osama Al Jowder (University of Bahrain) and Rashid Al Zayani (Supreme Council for Youth and Sports).
The 2017 Bahrain Sport Day will take place as per a decision of GCC National Olympic Committees’ Presidents to involve GCC citizens in a day full of sports activities.
The Bahrain Sport Day will also bring several sports competitions for youngsters and adults, including a track-and-field races and a cross country race.
Among other activities are competitions in swimming, sailing and rafting, a handball tournament for 9-14 years old boys and girls, a table tennis event, in addition to 30km and 90km cycling races.
This year’s Bahrain Sport Day is sponsored by Palace Enterprises, Design Arabia and Orange Hotel.
