Bahrain karate teams returned home to a warm welcome following a heroic performance at the 13th GCC Championship held in Dubai recently.
The nationals took 15 medals in total – 8 silver and 7 bronze to finish the competition in third place.
Bahrain Olympic Committee general secretary Abdulrahman Askar, along with Bahrain Martial Arts Association president Eng. Ahmed Al Khayyat and other high-ranking sports officials, received the team on return.
Askar was all praise for the team and conveyed the greetings and congratulations of His Majesty the King’s Personal representative for Charity Work and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) President Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa to the athletes.
The BOC general secretary noted that this achievement underlines the advanced level of martial arts in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and wished them progress.
On his part, Eng. Al Khayyat lauded the results of the Bahraini athletes in this major regional competition, and stressed that this achievement would not have been possible without the continued support of the kingdom’s sports leadership.
