?Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) member and Union of Arab National Olympic Committees’ Women’s Sport Committee chairwoman Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa recently chaired a coordination meeting with representatives of national women’s clubs.
The meeting was to prepare these teams for the second edition of the Arab Women’s Sports Tournament, scheduled to be held in Sharjah for the second successive time from February 2 to 12.
Bahrain will be taking part in six sporting disciplines at the event, namely volleyball, athletics, table tennis, basketball, shooting and fencing.
Shaikha Hayat, who travelled to Dubai along with BOC executive coordinator international affairs Mohammed Al Zayed, discussed a number of topics at the meeting.
The meeting focused on the latest preparations for the 11-day women’s tournament, as well as reviewing the technical bylaws and the competitions taking place.
Attending the meeting were Mohammed Kadhim and Jalil Al Aradi of Al Ahli Club, Hussain Al Durazi and Layla Nasser of Muharraq, Nahed Mubarak and Maryam Tulifat of Bahrain Fencing Club, Ebrahim ASiyadi and Latifa Al Khaja of Bahrain Sports Club, Khalid Abdulaziz of Bahrain Shooting Club and Kadija Al Aradi of Al Shabab Club.
The organising committee has already received applications for participation from 14 Arab countries, including Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, the UAE, Yemen, Egypt, Morocco, Lebanon, Libya, Palestine, Sudan, Jordan and Iraq.
They will be competing in seven sporting events, namely volleyball, basketball, athletics, table tennis, fencing and archery.
Twelve sports facilities are preparing to host the training and matches in various events.
The tournament will take place at several locations around Sharjah, including The Higher Colleges of Technology Sharjah, Al Shaab Cultural and Sports Club, and Al Thiqah Club for Handicapped.
Other venues are Al Manar School, Al Andalus School, The American University of Sharjah, Sharjah Ladies Club, Al Dhaid Sports and Cultural Club, and Sharjah University.
