?Bahrain Olympic Committee member and Union of Arab National Olympic Committees’ Women’s Sport Committee chairwoman Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa will head for the UAE today (Dec. 19) to chair the women’s committee second meeting and attend the Second Arab Women’s Sports Tournament due to take place in Sharjah from February 2 to 12.
Shaikha Hayat, who is travelling along with executive coordinator at the Bahrain Olympic Committee International Affairs Mohammed Al Zayed, will discuss a number of topics at this meeting.
Some of these subjects are following up the preparations for the 11-day tournament, to be organised in Sharajah for the second successive time, as well as reviewing the technical bylaws and the competitions taking place and formation of the discipline and the appeal committees.
Also during the meeting, the committee will name the supervising and follow up committee for the technical meeting, and determining the number of samples to be taken from the players by the anti-drugs committee.
The supervising and follow up committee includes Mohammed Izzat, Saad Sufyani, Khalid bin Hussain, Nada Askar, Ali Omar, Dr Bassil Al Shaer and Dr Abdulaziz Al Muhairi.
Bahrain will be taking part in six sporting disciplines, namely volleyball, athletics, table tennis, basketball, shooting and fencing.
The organising committee has received earlier this year applications for participation from 10 Arab countries, including Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, the UAE, Palestine, Oman, Sudan, Jordan and Iraq.
Twelve sports facilities are preparing to host the training and tournament for the participating countries in seven different events, which are basketball and volleyball, table tennis, shooting, fencing, archery, and athletics.
The tournament will take place at several locations around Sharjah, The Higher Colleges of Technology Sharjah, Al Shaab Cultural and Sports Club, Al Thiqah Club for Handicapped, Al Manar School, Al Andalus School, The American University of Sharjah, Sharjah Ladies Club, Al Dhaid Sports and Cultural Club, and Sharjah University.
