?Supreme Council for Youth and Sports First Deputy Chairman and Bahrain Athletics Association President Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa has won the Most Innovative Sports Event Award, granted by the India-based CSR, as part of the African Leadership Awards.
Shaikh Khalid was granted this particular award for organising the Khalid bin Hamad Swimming Challenge in March this year, when he completed 35 km swim from Saudi Arabia’s Sunset Beach Resort to Bahrain’s Sofitel Resort, in Zallaq.
It was the second award won by Shaikh Khalid in a space of two weeks, having claimed the Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Sport Creativity Award for his Swimming Challenge, whose proceeds were donated to cancer patients.
IT Director at the Bahrain Olympic Committee Nawaf Mohammed Abdulrahman received the award on behalf of Shaikh Khalid during a ceremony held at “Le Meridien” Hotel in Mauritius, in the presence of a great number of world figures. The Bahrain Olympic Committee had nominated Shaikh Khalid for the award.
Shaikh Khalid, meanwhile, was congratulated by high-ranking sports officials on this occasion. BOC general secretary Abdulrahman Askar said Shaikh Khalid winning these two awards.
Askar also congratulated His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier on this achievement. 
He lauded HM the King’s constant support to the sport and youth movement in the kingdom. Which, he said, helped Bahrain attain many historic achievements.
The BOC general secretary said that awarding Shaikh Khalid forms an international recognition of his achievement as he swam 35-hours nonstop.
Askar noted that the award comes to highlight Shaikh Khalid’s prestigious international ranking and the dedication of sports in the service of humanitarian works.
