The first of a two-day seminar on scientific research got underway yesterday (Sep. 16) at Rami Grand Hotel in Seef with more than 150 academics and researchers in the fields of sports management, sports medicine and sports training from Bahrain and other Arab countries in attendance.

Organised by the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) in cooperation with Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa Scientific Research Award in the field of sports.

The award is will be organised for the third consecutive time this year under the patronage of His Majesty the King Representative for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and BOC president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

One of the main objectives of the seminar is to highlight the importance of scientific research in developing sports movement in the Arab world.
Yesterday’s programme started with opening remarks by Dr. 
Abdulrahman Sayyar, the general secretary of the award, who welcomed the participants and noted that the scientific research is a strategic choice for the development of the sports movement.

Late on, the first theme on the facts and challenges of scientific research in the field of sports was presented by Dr. Sari Ahmed Hamdan, vice-president of the Jordan Olympic Committee.

It was followed by a paperwork on the scientific research in sports medicine and sports science in the Arab world, which was presented by Dr. Hazaa bin Mohammed Al Hazzaa, Professor and director of Pediatric Exercise Physiology Research Laboratory, King Saud University in Saudi Arabia.

The third and concluding theme of the day saw Dr. Mohammed Bu Daina of the Department of Physics at the University of Bahrain talk about applying nanotechnology in the field of sports.
Among those attending yesterday’s inauguration of the seminar were Bahrain Olympic Committee board member and president of the Bahrain Footgball Association Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa and other senior sports officials.

The seminar, meanwhile, is due to conclude today (Sep. 17) with three more sessions that will be presented by Dr. Mohammed Bu Hiji of Bahrain, Dr .Ahmed Al Shareef of the UAE, and Dr. Mohammed Hassanein of Egypt.
