?BAHRAIN’S Ruba Al Omari finished seventh in the F55 discus as the 2016 Paralympic Games came to a close in Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil. The event ran from September 7 to 18.
The 25-year-old, who was ranked fourth in the world (ICP) and one of the favourites for a podium spot in Rio, could not reproduce her best in a top class field.
Her best effort was 18.26 metres which was way below the 25.03m mark achieved by China’s Dong Feixia to win the gold.
Germany’s Mari Buggenhagen was second with a best effort of 24.56 and Latvia’s Diana Dadzite claimed the bronze with 22.66m.
Bahrain will return home with a lone gold medal won by Fatima Abdulrazzaq in the F53 category shot put event last week. Fatima set a new record of 4.76 metres on way to winning the gold.
The kingdom, who attended the closing ceremony yesterday at the famous Maracana Stadium, will now focus on the next edition of the Paralympics in 2020 in Tokyo with high hopes of adding to their nation’s medal tally in the history of the Paralympics.
Around 4,500 athletes from 170 countries competed in 32 sports for a total sum of 526 medals at the first-ever Paralympic Games hosted by a South American country.
