?BAHRAIN’s Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa was yesterday (SATURDAY) elected president of the Arab Volleyball Organisation (AVO) for a third successive time.
This came during the Ordinary General Assembly meeting of the AVO, which took place yesterday at the Regency Hotel’s Riffa Ballrooom.
The meeting was inaugurated by Bahrain Olympic Committee General Secretary Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalifa, who emphasized Bahrain’s bid to contribute to the success of all regional meetings which aim to promote joint Arab co-operation.
Shaikh Ahmed said the AVO has gained good reputation on the international level, thanks to the hard-working efforts of their representatives.
He congratulated Shaikh Ali on maintaining his post at the AVO and wished him success in further promoting volleyball in the Arab region.
On his part, Shaikh Ali delivered a speech on this occasion, thanking the significant support the AVO is getting from the Bahrain Olympic Committee and its president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Shaikh Ali noted that outstanding achievements of his organization during the past years, and emphasized his appreciation to the General Assembly for their trust in his abilities to continue the development of the game in the region and became capable of competing on the continental and international levels.
Also present at the meeting were International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) vice-president Amr Alwani of Egypt, FIVB member Issa Hamza and Asian Volleyball Confederation vice-president Ibrahim Abdulmalik.
A number of prominent regional volleyball officials who served the organization for more than 20 years, were honoured as they received First Degree Medal from the organization.
