?Bahrain’s under-17 volleyball team returned home to a hero’s welcome after winning the 12th edition of the Arab Championship, which concluded in Tunisia recently.Coached by Tunisia’s Saber Abdulwahed, the young Bahrainis won all their matches in the competition, and only conceded one set in the final match against host country Tunisia (25-22, 23-25, 25-21, 25-15).The champions were given a special return ceremony by Bahrain Olympic Committee member Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa, BOC acting general secretary Abdulrahman Askar and Bahrain Volleyball Association general secretary Feras Al Halwachi.Upon their arrival, Shaikha Hayat expressed pride over this achievement, and praised the outstanding performance of the players in the tournament, which underlined the developed level the Bahrain volleyball has reached.Shaikha Hayat noted that this victory added more joy for Bahrain after three other achievements won in space of one week.The Olympic football team notched the GCC Championship, the handball team took the bronze medal at the Asian Youth Games in China, while finally the under-17 basketball team taking home the GCC Championship title.Shaikha Hayat that these achievements represent a logical consequence to the support and care enjoyed by the sports sector in Bahrain by His Majesty King Hamad, who is always keen to follow up on the athletes.She praised the interest and encourage of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and BOC president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, which had the greatest impact in achieving many sporting achievements.The BOC member also congratulated BVA President Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa on this occasion, noting that his contributions and the efforts along with the board members played a major part in winning this regional championship.On his part, Askar expressed delight for this victory and lauded the players performance throughout the tournament, and urged the players to keep up their pace in future competitions.Askar commended the high spirit of the squad during the tournament, which saw 10 of the region’s best volleyball teams taking part, and stressed the keenness of the BOC to further support this young team to maintain their gains in the future.
