?An initiative, aimed at promoting different sports within Bahrain’s traditional playgrounds, was officially launched at Muharraq Governorate.
This first-of-its-kind gesture, titled ‘Al Firjan Playgrounds’, is the brainchild of Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee President.
Attending the launching event in Muharraq were Supreme Council for Youth and Sports assistant secretary general and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) secretary general Abdulrahman Askar.
He was joined by representatives of BOC Mohammed Lori and Mohammed Al Remaili, Bahrain Football Association’s Hasan Ismail and former international football players Hamad Mohammed and Rashid Al Dossary, who made a surprise visit to playgrounds in Al Hidd, Al Nuaim and Al Salata, and witnessed young athletes compete in a football game.
Late on, Askar, along with the rest of the visiting members, handed over footballs, donated by the Bahrain Olympic Committee, to the players, in an attempt to encourage them to continue play their favourite sports during school free time.
Al Dosari, the present coach of the Bahrain junior team, expressed happiness to be part of this plan, an initiative which reflects the dedication of Shaikh Nasser and support to the Bahraini youth, and it would contribute to the revival of Al Firjan playgrounds which almost disappeared In recent years.
