?The Indian School football team yesterday (Thursday) registered a well-earned victory on day two of the 2015 School Mini Olympics, being organized for the second successive time.
In their opening tie against Al Hekma School in the secondary stage football tournament, the Indian School dominated most of the game proceedings to emerge winners 5-2 at the Bahrain Football Association grounds in Riffa.

The football tournament got underway with Al Naseem and AMA schools battling to a 1-1 draw and sharing the match points.
Two matches kick off the girls section yesterday as Al Maarefa outplayed Isa Town 7-2, while Al Hekma edged past Al Noor 3-2 at Riffa Club Stadium in Huaniniya.

Elsewhere, Othman bin Afan eased to a 44-19 victory over AMA School in the boys basketball tournament, being staged at the Bahrain Basketball Association premises.

This category event, being played in a single round robin format, also featured respective victories for AMA, the British School and Al Hekma over Al Noor, Sacred Heart and AMA.

The girls tournament, also featuring round robin format, is being held at the Bahrain Disabled Sports Federation gym.

The finals of the basketball tournament is scheduled for April 29, the penultimate day of this year’s edition of the school mini Olympics.
Meanwhile, four players progressed into the semi-finals of the girls table tennis tournament as Rawan Hashim of Al Bilad Al Qadeem School takes on Hafsa’s Fatma Ahmed, while Zaynab Ahmed of Hafsa School faces Maryam Ali of Al Bilad Al Qadeem. 

In the boys section, Ali Younes of Jaber bin Hayan School, Khalid Abdulhamid of Imam Malik School, Sayed Hashim Alawi of Budaiya School and Ali Khalaf of Al Noor School all made it to the competition’s final four.

The mini Olympics now takes a two-day break and is due to resume on Sunday (April 26) with the semi-finals and finals of the table tennis events. These matches will be played from 9am onwards at the Bahrain Table Tennis Association gym in Riffa.
The mini Olympics got underway on Wednesday with Al Noor School lifting the boys volleyball tournament trophy, while Al Hekma School were crowned champions of the girls section.

It’s organized by the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) in cooperation with the Education Ministry and the national sports associations.
The Mini Olympics aims to spread and promote the values and principles of the Olympic among government and private schools in the Kingdom, and motivate them to practice sports activities and follow a healthy life style.

Among the main objectives of the Mini Olympics is to discover promising sports talent, build a solid foundation and involve them in competitive sporting activities organized by sports clubs and associations, as well as to establish competitive sports activities organized at the school.

Other goals are to spread and promote the values and principles of the Olympics within the schools community, motivate students to practice sports activities and increasing awareness among schools on the importance of developing sports activities, and activate community partnership with participating authorities.
