The importance of scaling up prevention, strengthening care, and enhancing surveillance were stressed during the Health Day campaign held yesterday (Wednesday).
Hundreds of staff from the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC), the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and the General Organisation for Youth and Sports flocked to conference hall in Seef area to check-up for blood sugar and BMI tests as well as blood donation.
The campaign was organized by the BOC in cooperation with the Bahrain Defence Force Hospital and Aster Medical Centre.
Some of the main objectives of the event was to increase the awareness about the rise in diabetes, and its staggering burden and consequences, trigger a set of specific, effective and affordable actions to tackle diabetes and high blood pressure.
A purpose-formed committee – tasked at bringing up similar events – is being headed by Nawaf Abdulrahman, who stressed BOC’s commitment towards the Bahrain society by holding a set of activities targeting for all segments of the community in an attempt to promote public health.
Abdulrahman said the good turnout from the three organisations for the blood donation campaign reflects the society’s perception on the importance of this initiative to help patients in need to promote community partnership.
