Sports federations of athletics, weightlifting and bodybuilding, swimming, golf and fencing decided to form Athletes Commissions.
The initiative was in response to the letter submitted by the Bahrain Olympic Committee’s Athletes Commission, being headed by board member of the BOC Ruqaya Al Ghasra.
Ruqaya Al Ghasra, along with BOC Athletes Commission member Aqeel Abdulamir, had a meeting with Bahrain Handball Association general secretary Khalid Al Najem and national volleyball team member Mohammed Abdulhussain to follow up the association’s athletes commissions formation process.
She briefed them on the commission tasks, and noted the importance of forming an internal committee that deals with the handball players affairs.
Ruqaya said she was pleased for the initiative of the five sports federations, and stressed the significance of having these commissions in every federation in order to defend its athletes’ rights, look at their needs and provide an ideal environment for them in order to give best performances and achievements.
The former Arab athletic champion extended her invitation to other sports federations to follow suit, and noted that the BOC Athletes Commission is fully prepared to offer assistant in this regard.
She said the commission will be making similar visits to more federations to activate joint cooperation in an attempt to achieve the aspired objectives of the commission.
