The second session of the Bahrain Olympic Committee’s (BOC) weekly open Ramadan Majlis focused on discussions on a plan to establish a comprehensive sports stadium.
The plan is as per Royal directives from the kingdom’s leadership to further develop the sports infrastructure in an attempt to host major regional and international sports competitions in the near future.
Held at the committee premises in Seef, the second meeting of this first-of-its-kind event was at the invitation of BOC general secretary Abdulrahman Askar, who welcomed representatives of sports associations, athletes, media, parliament and municipality councils.
It’s part of the BOC programmes launched as per the directives of Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman, and BOC President, aimed to promote sports in general and strengthen ties with the Bahrain sports society.
Among high-ranking sports officials attending the first meeting were parliament council members Ghazi Al Rahma and Jalal Mahfood, Bahrain Triathlon Association president Shaikh Saqer bin Salman Al Khalifa, Bahrain Bowling Association president Abdulla Al Dossary, Bahrain Volleyball Association vice-president Mohammed Al Thawadi and Bahrain TV Sports Channel head Fawaz Shamsan.
The attendees also had talks some other significant sports subjects, including ways of applying professionalism within Bahrain sports as well as privatization of local clubs.
The attendees also had talks on the most recent incident at the Euro 2016 Championship when packs of Russian and English football fans clashed in the French city of Marseille in a third straight day of battles, resulting in some serious injuries sustained for 31 people.
