?His Majesty the King Representative for Charity Work and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, and president of the Bahrain Olympic Committee Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa ordered to grant cash awards to members of Bahrain’s under-19 football team after successfully reaching the quarter-finals of the AFC U-19 Championship, being held in Bahrain.
The nationals made it to the competition’s final eight after a tough 3-2 win over Thailand in the concluding Group ‘A’ match last night (Wednesday) at Khalifa Sports City Stadium.
The victory saw Bahrain finish second in this four-nation group with six points and qualified along with group winners Saudi Arabia.
Right after the match, Shaikh Nasser gave his directives to reward the Bahrain team in appreciation to this achievement and their efforts in the first round of the tournament.
He noted that the outstanding performance of the team during the competition reflects their high spirit and keenness to lift the Bahrain flag high in international sporting events.
On his part, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports assistant general secretary and Bahrain Olympic Committee general secretary Abdulrahman Askar congratulated members of the team on this remarkable result and urged them to continue their excellent form in their next matches.
Askar added that Shaikh Nasser’s generous initiative will certainly have a positive impact on the players to put on their best in the next stages of this continental championship, and wished the team success.
