?Bahrain women’s bowling team will look to capture victory at the next GCC Women’s Games in Muscat. The fourth edition of the Games is scheduled to take place from March 8 to 18.
The nationals hope to retain the bowling competition gold medal, which they had won in the previous edition games in 2013 when they took 10 medals in total (4 gold, 3 silver and two bronze), thus boosting the kingdom’s medal tally to a record 54 medals in all games.
This year, Bahrain will be sending four of its most prominent bowling players to compete with some of the region’s best in this 11-day event.
Coached by Korean tactician Lee and his assistant Khalifa Khalfan, the team will be relying on a number of their experienced players who guided Bahrain to several victories in past tournaments.
Veteran bowler and team skipper Nadia Akeel will lead Bahrain’s hopes at the game. Other team members are Majeda Taher, Fatima Khalid and Dana Yaqoub.
Bahrain Bowling Association’s general secretary Fareed Taha said the team has been practicing all year with one or twice a week sessions, while training has been recently intensive with four to five sessions per week at the Awali Club or Ozone Bowling Centre in Sitra.
“The team selection was based on the coach point of view and without any interference from any member of the Bahrain Bowling Association board,” said Taha.
“We are so please with the team training programme and the progress they have made. Everyone here is keen and confident that our team is capable of keeping the title in Bahrain for the second consecutive time”.
“The competition in the championship is wide open, although Kuwait will head into the games as the hot favourites. We have prepared our team well and I believe our players will live up to their expectations and achieve the best results,” said Taha.
