?The Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) yesterday (SEPTEMBER 1) extended its partnership with the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) by signing a new agreement to deliver the more improved National Coaching Certification Programme.BOC acting general secretary Abdulrahman Askar and CAC Finance and Administration Director Marc Schryburt signed the agreement, as Bahrain look to extend its position among leading regional countries in this area.The programme, which got underway yesterday at the BOC Sports Training and Development Section premises in Juffair with a 12-day level 1 and 2 learning facilitator courses, saw 15 highly-qualified instructors in the fray.Making up small groups, the instructors collect information, which they will deliver to various coaches in different sports in order to qualify them reach top coaching standards.Each of the first three levels comprises four courses, while the fourth and final level features 10 courses.Speaking after the signing, Schryburt was all praise for Bahrain, saying he was surprised to know that more than nine national coaches have completed level four of the old programme and are presently heads of national teams in different sports.Schryburt, whose 24-hour short visit to Bahrain was the first, highlighted Bahrain’s partnership with the CAC – which he described as the most important one – having been the first nation to conduct the old program 15 years ago.“For us, the partnership in Bahrain has been the most important one, you have been the very first partner with us since 1997, we didn’t have any other partners in the Gulf area,” said Schryburt.“But because of the success that you have, training all your coaches, preparing for development of future generations. People have heard about this programme, and since then, we have been involved in other partnerships.“Since 2009, we have been implementing programmes in Jordan, Qatar and in the UAE last year, as the main purpose of this programme is deliver skills and knowledge to national instructors,” further explained Schryburt.On his part, Askar said that one of the BOC roles is to increase awareness towards sports professionalism in Bahrain by involving as many coaches of different sports in this programme.Two hundred coaches have already graduated from the National Coaching Certification Programme, the strongest programme of its kind in the Middle East.Askar added that Bahrain has more than 2,000 graduates overall, a figure that they are very proud of, and is confident that they can build on this success thanks to this developed programme.The National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP), launched in 1974 and delivered in partnership with the government of Canada, provincial, territorial governments, and national, provincial, territorial sport organizations, gives coaches the confidence to succeed.NCCP workshops are designed for all types of coaches. Whether they are thinking about coaching their child’s community team or are already head coaches of national teams, the NCCP has workshops to meet every coach needs.
