?The Kingdom of Bahrain’s efforts in the development of women’s sports in the Arab region was highly commended at the consultative meeting of the Arab Women’s Sports Tournament’s supervising committee in Manama.
Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) board member, chairwoman of the women’s sport committee and head of the women’s committee at the Union of Arab National Olympic Committees (UANOC) chaired the meeting, which was also attended by members of the supervising committee.
They were UANOC general secretary Saud bin Ali Al Abdulaziz, assistant general secretary Saad bin Saleh Al Sufyani, Executive Committee chairwoman Nada Al Naqabi, supervising and follow up committee member Khalid Al Hussain, member Dr Bassil Al Shaer and coordinator Mohammed Al Zayad.
The meeting started with Shaikha Hayat asserting her pride for the successes achieved by organizing the previous four editions of the Arab Women’s Sports Tournament in Sharjah, thanked to the support from Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs.
“Since its inception in 2012, the tournament has been a major success, contributing to the development of women’s sport in the Arab world,” said Shaikha Hayat.
“The high motivation of girls and sports clubs has become more and more supportive to women’s sports activities, which is reflected in the steady increase in the number of clubs participating in the tournament”.
Shaikha Hayat extended her gratitude to UANOC president Prince Bader bin Talal for backing the tournament, which played a key part in its continuity.
She also thanked Khalid bin Ahmed Al Qassimi, chairman of the organizing committee of the tournament, for his efforts and valued Nada Al Naqabi for her significant contributions.
On his part, Al Abdulaziz expressed thanks and appreciation to Bahrain for hosting this crucial meeting, which was to set up key points ahead of the next edition of the Arab Women’s Sports Tournament, to be held in 2020.
As for Al Naqabi, she noted that the supervising and follow up committee plays a crucial role in preparing for the competition, and said that the tournament featured remarkable progress throughout the years.
The meeting was preceded by a film presentation on the Children Olympic Games, organized by the Bahrain Olympic Committee in May, and featured the sports contests that involved kids from different nurseries and kindergartens.
