?Bahrain’s national fencing team returned from Amman, in Jordan where they took five medals at the recently-concluded Arab Fencing Championship.
The nationals won two gold medals, two silver and one bronze in the week-long regional competition, in which some of the most prominent Arab athletes took part in different category events.
Bahrain medals were won by Abdulkarim Isa Abdulla (Epee) and Maram Ahmed Mohammed (Floret), who later added the women’s Epee silver medal, and also teamed up to win the doubles bronze.
Saud Khalifa Al Atawi took the men’s Floret Silver medal, while Sumaya Khalid Yousef notched the Floret doubles bronze.
The remaining Bahraini athletes Ali Al Assiri, Ali Ahmed Mattar, Hanin Abdulaziz Al Ayadi, Layla Fardeen, Maram Mohammed, the only Bahraini who took part in the Sabre event.
Bahrain Fencing Association board member Rashid Saad Juma headed the Bahrain delegation, which also comprised administrator Mohammed Buzaid and the coaching team from Uzbekistan.
Meanwhile, the team was given a special welcome on return. They were received on arrival by Bahrain Olympic Committee member Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa, as well as other BOC directors and BFA board members.
Shaikha Hayat congratulated the Bahrain team on this achievement and praised their results in the championship, and wished them progress.
