?Bahrain’s delegation to the Second Youth Olympic Games, which concluded in Nanjing, in China recently, was given a warm welcome on return yesterday.
The nationals competed in athletics events during the two-week event, and managed to win four medals in three different competitions.
Salwa Eid Nasser opened Bahrain’s account in the Olympic, taking home the women’s 400m silver, then Dalila Abdulqader than bagged the women’s 1,500m bronze.
Bahrain then added two more medals on the concluding day of the Olympics as Mohammed Jamal Saad clinched the innovative mixed 8x100m relay silver, while Salwa came third in the same event among women to win the competition’s bronze.
Other athletes came close to winning a podium finish as Abdi Ebrahim Abdo was fourth in the men’s 3,00m, Fatuma Chebsi was managed third place in the women’s 3,000m.
Bahrain’s delegation to Nanjing was chaired by Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) board member Abdulhakim Al Shino. It also comprised director Fahad Al Khalthan, deputy director Maryam  Mardana and athletics team director Ahmed Hamada.
The team was welcomed on return by BOC general secretary Abdulrahman Askar, who congratulated the athletes on their respective results in the competition, and wished them progress.
Askar noted that the what has been achieved in Nanjing came as a result of the support and directives of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and BOC president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, as well as Supreme Council vice-chairman and Bahrain Athletics Association (BAA) president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Other high-ranking sports officials who greeted the delegation include BAA vice-president Mohammed Abdullatif Jalal, BOC sports affairs executive director Jehad Khalfan and other BAA and BOC representatives.
