?Bahrain’s national athletics team yesterday (Monday) returned home to a special welcome after their impressive show at the recently-concluded Asian Indoor Athletics Championships in Doha.
The nationals took nine medals in total (3 gold, 5 silver and 1 bonze) after a stiff competition from top athletes from all around the continent.
Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) general secretary Abdulrahman Askar led a team of high-ranking sports officials at the reception ceremony at Bahrain International Airport, where he congratulated the team on their achievement.
Askar commended the efforts of the Bahrain Athletics Association (BAA), headed by Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, which contributed to the achievement.
The BOC general secretary also noted the outstanding performance and results of the Bahrain team at this major continental championship, which reflects the advanced level of athletics in the kingdom and the continued support of Shaikh Khalid.
He conveyed the greetings and congratulations of His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Work and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee to the team and his best wishes.
On his part, BAA vice-president Mohammed Abdullatif bin Jalal expressed pride for the team outcome, which he attributed to the backing and directives of Shaikh Nasser and Shaikh Khalid to the athletes. He added that the achievement is a major motive for further honorable successes and victories for the Kingdom of Bahrain at all levels.
