Bahrain Olympic Committee general secretary Abdulrahman Askar was all praise for the Bahrain Basketball Association (BBA) after successfully organizing the First Clubs 3on3 Basketball Championship, which concluded in Bahrain recently.
The two-day event, held at the BBA’s Um Al Hassam Complex, saw 12 clubs from all over the Gulf region compete for the title, which was won by Qatari champions Al Rayyan.
Askar was the chief guest of the final, after which he presented trophies and medals to winners Al Rayyan and their compatriots Al Sadd, whom they beat 22-16 in the final. Manama Club won the bronze medal beating Oman’s Nazwa 21-16 in the third and fourth place match.
Al Rayyan topped Group ‘A’, which comprised Bahrain’s Nuwaidrat and Al Hala, Ohod of Saudi Arabia, Al Nasr of Kuwait and Oman’s Al Ettifaq, to qualify for the quarter-finals.
On the other hand, Al Sadd qualified after winning Group ‘B’, which had Manama, Al Ahli of Bahrain, Kuwait’s Al Jahra, Al Wehda of Saudi Arabia and Nazwa of Oman.
Following the awarding ceremony, Askar congratulated BBA president Adel Al Assomi on the success of the tournament, which was organised for the first time in the Gulf region.
Askar commended the organizing committee members and their efforts in making this event an all-round success, which underlined the ability of the kingdom to host major regional and international sporting competitions.
He also praised the outstanding performance of all the teams which took part, especially Al Rayyan Club, whom he congratulated on winning the trophy.
Askar affirmed that the success of the first edition will contribute to its continuity in the future, stressing the importance of such events which aim to further strengthen ties among athletes of the GCC.
