?Bahrain’s national athletics team was given a special welcome on return from Japan where they were crowned overall champions of the Asian Cross Country Championship.
Bahrain Olympic Committee’s (BOC) acting general secretary Abdulrahman Askar was among high-ranking sports officials who greeted members of the team on their remarkable achievement.
The team was also congratulated on arrival by BOC Sports Affairs executive director Jehad Khalfan, Bahrain Athletics Association (BAA) vice-president Mohammed Abdullatif Jalal, BAA board member Ruqaya Al Ghasra and other BAA officials.
On this occasion, Askar expressed congratulations to the country’s leadership, and also to Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and BOC president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa and Supreme Council first vice-chairman and BAA president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Askar also lauded the team’s overall performance and the outstanding results achieved by its athletes during this continental championship, which saw the participation of several skillful and experienced athletes from all over Asia.
Askar added that the achievements of the BAA, chaired by Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, reflect the plans and strategies set up by the association in order to improve this sport, which has achieved a series of results on the regional, continental and international levels, thanks to the support and follow-up of all members of the association, pointing out that the BOC and its president spares no effort to provide all forms of support for the association to continue the series of successes that will enhance Bahrain’s reputation on the world map.
On his part , head of the Bahrain delegation Khaled Al Dossary expressed pride on this achievement, thanks Shaikh Khalid, stressing that these remarkable results would not have been possible without the support and continuous follow-up of His Highness, praising the efforts of all members of the Board of Directors.
Al Dossary commended the high levels of the athletes, stressing that the achievement came as a result of the training camp set up by the team in Ethiopia, where they showed high disciplines.
