Bahrain Olympic Committee general secretary Abdulrahman Askar congratulated Supreme Council for Youth and Sports first vice-chairman and Bahrain Athletics Association president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa on winning a special award by the Board of Trustees for the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Creative Sports Award in Dubai.
Shaikh Khalid won an reward for the athlete who achieved tremendous success after organising the 42-km Khalid Bin Hamad Swimming Challenge from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain this year in March.
Askar said the award represents another recognition of Shaikh Khalid’s reputation as a model sports figure in Bahrain, which is due to his prominent role in developing sports movement in the kingdom.
The BOC general secretary also congratulated International Military Sports Council President Abdelhakeem Al Shino, who was named Creative Arab Administrator for being the first Arab and Asian president to become President of International Military Sports Council in 2014.
The board announced 25 sports figures including institutions as the winners of the award that is the first of its kind ever devoted to creativity in sports.
The awards were announced during a Press conference on Tuesday by Board of Trustees chairman Mattar Al Tayer, Dubai Sports Council General Secretary Saeed Hareb, Board of Trustees member and Jury Vice President Dr Atef Odibat, Board of Trustees members, besides sports and media institutions representatives in the UAE.
The sixth edition of the awards is the biggest and most important and is named after Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
The winners, approved by Shaikh Mohammed, will be honoured during a special celebration to be held on January, 14, 2015 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
