?Bahrain Olympic Committee acting general secretary Abdulrahman Askar congratulated the Bahrain national golf team on winning the 18th GCC Championship as well as finishing second overall in the Seventh GCC Championship, both concluded at the Dirab Golf and Country Club in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Saturday.
The Bahrain team retained the championship trophy with 674 points, followed by Saudi Arabia (692) in second and Qatar (694) took third place. UAE (697) was fifth, Oman (727) were fifth while Kuwait (779) was at the bottom. Kuwait took the net title scoring 680.
Bahrain’s Hamad Mubarak claimed the overall individual gross title (221), edging his country mate Nasser Yaqoob (221) in a playoff. UAE’s Khaled Yousuf took the bronze medal with a score of 222, while Azaan finished a stroke behind.
In the junior category, the Omani trio of Hamood, Rashad and Amjad clinched the nett title with a score of 507.
In the gross event, UAE was on top with a score of 473, while Qatar (480) and Bahrain (429) came second and third, respectively. Oman finished fourth (526), a shot better than Saudi Arabia, while Kuwait (554) came in last.
Askar hailed the outstanding performance achieved by the National Golf Team which clinched the trophy, lauding Bahraini golfers for their class which earned them the GCC championship.
The BOC acting general secretary took pride in the honourable performance, hailing Bahrainis for their devotion to honour their country and consolidate its standing in the GCC and international sport arenas.
He also congratulated national golf team player Nasser Yacoub Saleh who finished second in the singles category, wishing him every success in the coming sport championships.
