?Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) acting general secretary Abdulrahman Askar yesterday gave a lecture for PhD students at the College of Physical Education and Physiotherapy on (Structure of sports organizations in the Kingdom of Bahrain).
The lecture was offered as part of the ongoing cooperation between the Bahrain Olympic Committee and the University of Bahrain, as Askar focused on administrative management at the Bahrain Olympic Committee.
At the beginning of the meeting, Askar welcomed the delegation of sports management professor Adel Al Nashar and other present students, namely Abdullah Al Haj , Fatima Al Suwaidi, Nabila Al Dosari, Hanan Al Benjassim and Shahla Al Jowdar.
Askar praised the close cooperation of the Bahrain Olympic Committee and the University of Bahrain, especially the College of Physical Education and Physiotherapy, stressing the need to continue such visits that allow students to understand the nature of sports organizations work in the Kingdom and the prominent role being played for the advancement of sports movement in Bahrain.
Also during the seminar, Askar spoke about the administrative management of the Bahrain Olympic Committee and its relation to other sports relevant bodies such as the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, and the General Organization for Youth and Sports. He also gave a detailed explanation about the history of the Bahrain Olympic Committee since its inception in 1979, and some bright stops in its career, such as international achievements, and the most prominent figures who took over the presidency of the committee, in addition to the committee objectives, vision and mission.
Askar said the committee has seen a major shift since Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa presidency in 2009, which was seen in the growing international achievements of the sports federations in various tournament on the GCC, Arab, continental and global levels, in addition to adopting a new strategy and vision which was launched last year in 2013, and has been linked with the 2014 budget, as a number of operational objectives and initiatives have been set up to implement this strategy.
The BOC acting general secretary added that the committee operates under a distinctive administrative organization and a specific structure which includes a range of directorates and committees featuring highly-efficient staffs. He also noted that the committee is working according to certain financial regulations and specific management, and is committed to the Olympic Charter issued by the International Olympic Committee.
Askar noted that the two basic functions of the committee is to serve and support the sports federations and supervise national teams in international competitions, stressing that the committee has become in constant evolution at all levels and is planning to do a series of initiatives aimed at develop and qualify technical and administrative personnel at sports federations.
Askar said that the committee’s Women’s Sport Committee, chaired by Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa, a BOC board member, is giving great importance to women’s sports , resulting in a remarkable number of brilliant achievements for Bahraini women in various international events.
Following the seminar the students and Askar toured all directorates and sections of the committee, during which they were briefed on the nature of work in each department.
In conclusion, the students expressed their sincere thanks and appreciation to Askar for his adequate explanation, expressing their admiration for the administrative management within the BOC, as well as noting the growing achievements and successes achieved by the Committee at all levels.
