?BAHRAIN Olympic Committee (BOC) acting general secretary Abdulrahman Askar yesterday met at his office Fahad Al Khathlan, director of the Bahrain delegation to the second Asian Youth Games, scheduled to be held in Nanjing, in China, from August 16 to 24.
The delegation also includes assistant Mohammed Al Ghenaim, fencing team administrator Mohammed Buzaid, athletics team administrator Salem Nasser, athletics team administrator Fatma Al Mudawab, treasurer Ahmed Al Omari and journalist Mohammed Attiya.
During the meeting, Al Khathlan briefed Askar on the latest preparations of the Bahrain delegation before making the trip to the Far East, as well as all the arrangements made ahead of this continental event.
On his part, Askar directed the delegation to put on their best efforts in the upcoming challenge, and provide an ideal environment for the Bahraini athletes to pull off successes for the kingdom.
Bahrain will be competing in four different disciplines during the nine-day Games. They are athletics, handball, table tennis and fencing.
The Games will feature 118 events in 15 sports, four of which involve teams: football, rugby sevens, three-on-three basketball and handball.
The rugby sevens draw will be of particular interest, as the International Olympic Committee’s second Summer Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing in 2014 will feature the abbreviated version of the game for the first time in an Olympics ahead of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
The 15 sports for the Youth Games in Nanjing include athletics, aquatics (swimming and diving), football, tennis, rugby sevens, golf, fencing, basketball, weightlifting, badminton, table tennis, handball, judo, squash and shooting.
