September 11, 20196

?The Bahrain Olympic Committee’s Anti-Drugs Committee head Dr Hussain Al Haddad recently attended the Fourth World Conference on Doping in Johannesburg with an aim to curb doping in sports.
The meeting, which brought together about 900 delegates from countries and regions from all corners of the world, discussed ways to tackle doping. It also ratified the revised 2015 Doping Code and related International Standards.
Al Haddad said the aim of the conference is to promote one of the most fundamental principles governing sports. “Fair play is certainly the essence of sport,” he said. The code was the document that harmonizes anti-doping efforts in sports.
“The highlight of the agenda was the approval of the revised WADA Code and four accompanying International Standards. The revised code has been ratified and will be implemented by signatories in 2014 before taking effect on January 1, 2015,” added Al Haddad.
In his opening speech, president of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), John Fahey, said, “It is WADA’s duty now at the Fourth World Conference on Doping in Sport, to approve the revised version of the 2015 World Anti-Doping Code and offer our community the best possible opportunity to tackle the scourge of doping that exists in sports.”
The conferences also elected Sir Craig Reedie as WADA’s new President, taking over from John Fahey whom began his term almost six years ago. WADA also announced the election of M.A. Stofile as the organization’s next Vice-President.
Attending the conference were sports ministers and representatives from the International Olympic Committee, International Paralympic Committee, International Federations, and National Olympic Committees.
