?Al Ahli Club volleyball team has set their sights on the podium in the Second Arab Women’s Sports Tournament, which takes place in Sharjah from February 1 to 12.
The Bahraini representatives will compete with nine other sports clubs from across the Arab region for the prestigious trophy of this event, to be organised for the second successive time in Sharjah.
Al Ahli Club administrator Asma Al Kooheji said the players have been training twice per day before heading for Sharjah for the 12-day regional tournament.
Al Kooheji said the team coaches Abduljalil Al Aradi and Ahmed Saleh have both made the selection of the final squad to spearhead the Bahraini club.
The team comprises Hajer Al Ansari, Marwa Shamsan, Farah Juma, Najla Turab, Hessa Al Isa, Fayza Sayyar, Maryam Al Sulaiti, Dana Al Isa, Bayan Nasser, Ghada Marhoon, in addition to two professional players.
Al Kooheji added that the team has resumed their training programme following the first semester school exams, noting that a number of friendly matches were played after that against Muharraq and Al Tadhamon.
A third and last tune up game will be played this Wednesday, while their final training session is scheduled for Thursday evening, just before their departure to Sharjah.
Bahrain will be competing in six sporting disciplines at the event, namely athletics, table tennis, basketball, shooting, fencing and volleyball.
Muharraq will compete in the basketball event, Bahrain Club in table tennis, Bahrain Fencing Club in fencing, Bahrain Shooting Club in shooting, while Al Shababa Club is to represent the kingdom in the athletics championship.
Athletes from 14 Arab countries, including Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, the UAE, Yemen, Egypt, Morocco, Lebanon, Libya, Palestine, Sudan, Jordan and Iraq, are in the fray for the second edition tournament.
They will be competing in seven sporting events, namely volleyball, basketball, athletics, table tennis, fencing and archery.
